After the holidays we started working again, as I expected the children wanted to work, because they like to work in the class and more because they already know that their days to play are Thursdays and fridays, well those are the days I gave them to get relaxed after a hard week working. We have been working om Monday to Wednesday and on the other two days we work less time and we play.
I think they are enjoying the classes and I see that they are learning step by step more vocabulary and structures that were difficult before. They like to work but they also like when they are going to play. Even when they go getting better, it is difficult to work with them the principal reason is why they are a mixed group, so it is too complicated to work different activites at the same with children from 6 to 12 years. Some of them still have some problems on the subject even the oldest ones.
One day I was amazed, they worked an activity on dictation the same for all the group and when I was checking the notebooks one girl on 1st grade had from 11 sentences like " The house is orange" just 2 mistakes, she is so smart and on the other hand a boy on 5th grade had all of the sentences wrong. It is terrific to see so smart children like that girl, but it is too sad to see children with those learning problems. Now after years teaching english I have learnt and as a personal opinion I think that to learn english one of the most important things is that we like the language, on that way it will be easier to learn it.
Hi Nohemi,
ResponderEliminaryes, I agree with you that if we like English it'll be easier to learn it that if we don't. But what do we have to do with SS that don't like the language and they NEED the grade for continue studying?
I think here is where we, as teachers will must motivate Ss to learn English.
Keep going!
Edna :)
Hi Nohemi ,
ResponderEliminarI really like teaching young learners, because you can teach with many funny materials with them. When students play games, they do not realize that they are learning language.
Greetings :)
Hello Nohemi,
ResponderEliminarSorry to hear that you are still struggling with the different levels within the classroom. I was tryong to think of possible solutions, and I thought that you might want to try creating learning centres - that way, you could separate the students according to their levels, and have them work together on different aspects of the language. Here's a webpage which gives some general information about learning centres, but there's a lot more info online:
